Avoid The Research Rut

Fab Wedding Advice – Part 3 of 10

Research is an important and fun part of the wedding planning process, but it’s crucial to know when enough’s enough. At a certain point you’ll end up confusing rather than informing yourself.

Reference the wedding priorities we talked about in Part 2 of this series to help concentrate your efforts on the things that mean the most to you. And even within that you might like to decide which you look at first, and which you already have pretty fixed ideas on, such as the type of food or style of the venue.

Definitely don’t do research just because you feel you should, or because someone else says you should. It’s not them who’ll be burning the midnight oil and getting more and more frustrated.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that the more venues or vendors you find out about the more informed you’ll be and the easier your choice will be. It’s almost always the opposite.

Most importantly, set some hard limits on what you’ll do. You can decide on the number of hours or days you’ll spend, or better still set some limits such as no more than 3-5 venues. The same goes for photographers, celebrants, florists and so on.

It’s tempting, of course, to farm out some of the research to friends. That might help, but be cautious. Their taste isn’t necessarily yours, and they probably won’t ask the same questions or have the same concerns as you.

That said, professional planners can save you a lot of time and are definitely worth considering. At Abel Estate and our sister venue Tui Hills we offer a Concierge planning service that will take care of all the important things, including finding quality, reliable and experienced vendors.
